Employment And Training Resources Available For Those Impacted By Western Alaskan Storms
To assist those impacted by the severe storms, flooding, and remnants of Typhoon Halong that affected Alaska’s western coast, the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (DOLWD) has compiled the below lists of employment and training resources.
Alaska Job Centers
Job seekers can receive reemployment assistance (such as resume, interviewing assistance, and career exploration) from any of our 13 statewide job centers .
Those impacted by the disaster may also qualify for funding for:
- training to assist with cleanup efforts,
- training for a new career,
- relocation to start a new job, and
- supportive services that support the above activities such as childcare, housing assistance, utility assistance, etc.

Unemployment Insurance (UI)
If you are affected by the disaster in Western Alaska, you may be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance.

Alaska Works Partnership
Alaska Works Partnership offers free, hands-on, introductory training in several trades skills including carpentry, welding, plumbing, electrical, weatherization, and more. They have locations in Anchorage, Mat-Su, and Fairbanks. Classes are conducted in a safe and controlled co-ed environment.

Don Young Alaska Job Corps Center
Located in Palmer, Job Corps offers FREE career and technical training to eligible individuals ages 16-24. Our residential program provides opportunities to obtain high school diplomas or GED, along with career training and certification in trades related to construction, electrical, welding, water and wastewater treatment, medical, protective services, and culinary arts.
We offer expedited enrollment for those experiencing homelessness or affected by natural disaster.

MAPTS provides hands-on, industry-recognized training programs that prepare Alaskans for high-demand jobs in the state’s resource and construction sectors.
